Miracle water and 'Chamatkar' in the temples

Are miracles a thing of the past or they are still very much there?

As far as there are people who do not believe in science are present, miracles would be there. Recently, people in Mumbai thronged the Mahim bay to get a sip of the miracle water.

Any phenomenon which is unbelievable to human beings is termed as a miracle. However, with proper logic and science applied, it may seem like any other natural phenomenon.

Experts say that when the Mithi river water doesnt mix with the sea water properly, it decreases the salinity of the water thus making it a bit sweeter. It was a natural phenomenon where the salinity had dipped from 1000 ppm to about 600 ppm. Let us consider that it is a miracle. Whats the harm in accepting it?

Consider the number of people queing up to get a sip of this water and then taking home in bottles, plastic bags, etc whatever they can get hold of.

Mineral water bottles which are normally sold at Rs 12/- per litre were being sold at Rs 50/- per bottle with the water in it only being emptied down the drain. Drinking from a water body where tonnes of industrial waste is dumped everyday would cause nothing else but the spread of an epidemic - Just another chance to blame the government.

As ideas mutiply with every thought, so do miracles. God idols all across north India and other parts were drinking milk offered by its followers. Milk prices had shot up from Rs. 18-20 a litre to almost Rs. 40/- a litre. People, who could not afford milk for their children, offered it to the deity, praying for a better future for their kids. Experts gave a convincing scientific explanation on television on all channels so that people think and act practically, instead of wasting time and money.

Even if we assume miracles do happen, is it just to get the long lost followers back to the deity's feet? These acts just make the beliefs of God's existence - that supreme power's existence felt.
May all be blessed by that supreme power always and have the power to distinguish between the correct and the wrong.

What happens when your best friend is not talking to you? (Relationships - 3)

As mentioned in one of my earlier posts, you do not realise the importance of a close friend until he/she goes away from you.

There are number of reasons which keep you interested in your work/studies.
Most of the parents feel that kids should not play and they should always study. In reality, some playing time in a day freshens up the mind and one can study with much more interest than otherwise. Similarly, in office, eagerness to meet your friends, be a part of some event that is happening in office, the recreational activities like pool, TT, etc are the few things that actually drive you to go to office. Once you reach the office and sit at your desk, all the pending work automatically falls into place.

One of your best friends in office - what is he/she wearing today, your group of friends are planning an outing for the weekend - these things give you the much needed zeal at work.

Now, consider a day when one or two of your best friends are upset with you and are not talking. Does your day at work shape up differently? It certainly does. You do not feel the same. On any other day, your work would have given better productivity to the company but not today. You feel as if you are all alone in this world, and no one is actually bothered about you on that particular day. You go to play pool and you find that there is no one to accompany you. You plan to just change your mood a bit by chatting with a few friends and all are busy at the same time - as if they are together and left you all alone to suffocate in that clumsy and silent office space of yours which otherwise is so lively all the time.

You desperately try to call up a few other friends but none of them are reachable. Some of them are nicely partying when you are in the worst of situations. You dont understand what to do and resort to shedding a few valuable tears. Does crying really help in such situations? Some people feel it does as it vents out your frustation. Some people use it just to create a sympathy wave in their friend's mind which may eventually just convince him/her to forgive you.

He/She may forgive you after a day or two but what about the two days which were probably an endless era for you. If you say sorry a hundred times, they may just keep ignoring you. If you dont say sorry, they may feel that he/she has such a big ego problem. Those few days are a one man's world for you and that is the best test of how you can control yourself.

Once that phase passes, you feel as if you were so stupid to resort to crying or even hurting yourself physically in some cases. People resort to such steps in an event of a failure in any walk of life. Friends are the best ones who can support such a person during this phase. They are the people who know you in and out.

Let that phase pass and...... life goes on.

Do great sportsmen really deserve the treatment they get when they dont perform?

Michael Schumacher, Sachin Tendulkar - These are few names in the sports arena which will never fade out. Do they really deserve the treatment they get when they underperform?

Its human nature to forget the good things pretty fast, but one mistake and you cant escape the public outcry. People have their own stories to tell. When Sachin was bothered by a series of injuries, people speculated his retirement. Media has always played an important role in these speculations. Any new series and all eyes are set on Sachin's performance more than India's win. Should a single player's performance be so much important for a team's performance. Probably, if he is relieved of these expectations, he might perform much better.

Schumi, one of the greatest F1 drivers of all times, had a real bad season in 2005. He effortlessly won the 2004 championship, had a real bad season in 2005, and didnt start off pretty well in 2006. There were names already being suggested for his replacement in the Ferrari team for 2007. But Schumi has won the last 3 races and its all set for an exciting finish with 6 races left in this season. The same people (Who were speculating his retirement) are betting on Schumi for the next season too. Can he beat Alonso with the lead coming down to just 11 points with the German grand prix. Schumi may still think about retirement if he wins the season.

So, all set for last 6 exciting races this season. Vroooooooooooomm!!!

Relationships - 2

Its generally believed that relationships are based on trust. I have a slightly different take on this. Relationships are based more on small tiffs, though trust is the underlying foundation for any relation to succeed. Misunderstandings and petty quarrels bring two people closer.

Does that mean we keep fighting to make our relationship stronger?
The answer is a strict NO. That may just make matters worse. You need to have a tradeoff between the two. In different walks of life, you need to strike a perfect balance between the options available.

Most of the quarrels start because of increased expectations, most of which cannot be fulfilled. Does quarelling over them for hours together really help? Sometimes, it certainly does but most of the times, it doesnt. Misunderstandings cleared amicably dont generally leave a scar behind.

Does scolding or hitting a child always help you to make him mend his ways? Explain him with proper affection, assure him that you are always there, give him the required support, and see the results. Our heart is also like a kid. U need to handle it with proper care and remove the junk off it, thus maintaining its charm.

Thus, why waste this beautiful life given by god in such trivial things? We might as well use it aptly to explore new relations and take efforts to make the existing relations stronger. A pleasant mind and heart will always help you to succeed in all your endeavours.

How effective is the media?

How effective is our media? Everyday, we see the increasing commercialisation of the Media industry!

Let us take the recent example of the 5 year old who was in a pit which was almost 40 feet deep. All the channels were covering the same event for 50 hours.

What about the other important news? And then you have the "masala" that the news channels add to the main content. Even after devoting so much time to the incident, different channels came up with different models of the hole, that was dug to rescue the kid.

Even newspapers had the news on the first page, but different pictures to reveal the plan behind the rescue operation. LOL!!!
The Media, probably the best industry so far, is moving towards the bad bad world of commercialisation.

Should the quality of news be compromised just for publicity?

Relationships - 1

My first blog is on relationships. Relationships, be it any kind - friend, sibling, parents are an important part of everyone's lives.

Some relations are forced to you and you dont have a choice while some others you make by choice. Irrespective of the type of relation, you need to show certain amount of interest, liking to keep a relation going.

Maintaining a relation is as important as clearing your matriculation exam. Most of the people dont realise this and thus, fail.
